Ten Years Later, A Rare Version Of Minecraft Was Discovered

A very rare early version of Minecraft, long thought to be lost, was discovered over 10 years after its release. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released in September of 2010 for the first time as the Java Edition. 35ENG'S BLOG It was only available for three hours. Gaming historians have discovered it.

There have been a variety of versions of Minecraft over the years and fans have meticulously saved and archived a lot of them for reasons of preservation. One version known as Alpha 1.1.1, or Seecret Saturday was believed to be lost. It introduced fishing rods as well as sneaking to Minecraft. However it was discovered to have a game-breaking bug which would make the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

The whole tale of its rediscovery was told over Twitter by the user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who discovered the missing alpha. As Luna says that Alpha 1.1.1 became a viral phenomenon or even a holy grail of the Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive and no one of them expected to find it.

Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets, and asked her about it. She eventually discovered a backup of minecraft.jar that was on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna checked the file and confirmed that it was Alpha 1.1.1, which she then published on Omniarchive and it exploded.

So I posted in Omniarchive and it wouldn't be an understatement for me to say that some people were noticing.

Just from the reactions from the reactions, the reality of just how big a find this is begins to take hold. I literally begin shaking.
